OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police nabbed a 23-year-old man who they said carjacked and injured a vehicle owner early Friday morning, police said in a news release. Osama Mansur, of Chicago Ridge, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a charge of vehicular hijacking.

Just before 1 a.m. Friday, police were called to the 5600 block of 105th Street for a reported vehicular hijacking. Officers found the vehicle owner bleeding from the head. The man told police he went to his vehicle parked on the street. As he was closing the car door, a man, later identified as Mansur, jumped into the driver’s seat, police said.

According to the charges, the two began to struggle when Mansur hit the man in the head with a blunt object, causing a laceration above the man’s eye. Mansur fled the scene on foot. Police said the vehicle owner provided officers with a description of the purported carjacker and the direction he fled in. The vehicle owner received medical treatment for his injury, which was not life-threatening.
