According to witnesses and surveillance video from a nearby business, investigators determine that the incident began as a verbal dispute when Duplessis was ordered to leave the area. Duplessis spat at the victim, escalating the confrontation into a violent physical altercation resulting in the victim being stabbed multiple times, police said.
Multiple witnesses are said to have come forward and identified Duplessis as the perpetrator.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one felony charge of attempted first degree murder. Duplessis was detained in Cook County Jail following a detention hearing on Monday at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
“The Oak Lawn Police Department extends its appreciation to the witnesses who came forward,” OLPD said in a statement. “Their cooperation was instrumental in the rapid detention, identification, and arrest of the offender by responding officers.”
