Unknown If Shooter Waited By Remote-Started Car In Bridgeview Slaying
Investigation continues in the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Bridgeview man who was confronted near his remote-started car in a parking lot.
BRIDGEVIEW, IL — A man was fatally shot in Bridgeview walking to his car early Wednesday morning, police said.
The man, identified as Arturo Cantu, 39, lived in an apartment building in the 7300 block of West 79th Street. Bridgeview police said it appeared that Cantu remote started his car. He was walking out to it when he was confronted near the car where the shooting occurred.
Police said the man’s body was found nearby on the easement on the side of the apartment building around 5 a.m. He had been shot multiple times.

No suspect is in custody. Investigators are trying to determine if this was a targeted shooting or a robbery or carjacking gone wrong.
“We’re still trying to find out if someone was waiting by the car since it had been remote started,” said Chief Rick Mancha, of the Bridgeview Police Department. “One thing I do want to reiterate is that Bridgeview is a safe community. We haven’t had a shooting in over a year.”

Oketo Avenue was briefly closed this morning during the investigation but is open now.
