Marist High School is preparing a big party for math teacher Owen Glennon when he returns from his more than 1,000 mile, epic cycling adventure that started in Esopus, NY, on June 28.
Mr. Glennon, one of Marist’s most dedicated and loyal teachers, is due to arrive on his trusty Trek Madonne 5.5 bike between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12.

Marist is also hosting a welcome back party from 3 to 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, 4200 W. 115th St., Chicago. Students, parents, alumni and friends of Marist are welcome to gather there as well.
The high school hopes to raise $40,000 -- a thousand for each year Mr. Glennon has taught at the school. Marist has so far received over $30,000 for the school’s endowment fund to help students in need.
As of Wednesday evening, Mr. Glennon and his wife, Carlin, who is following him by car pulling the couple’s Little Guy teardrop trailer (he promises the tour of the ‘Little Guy’ when he makes it back to Marist this Sunday), are in Archibald, OH.
Mr. Glennon will cross into Indiana on Thursday, overnighting in a town called Mongo.
To date, he has ridden 784 miles and climbed 19,817 feet.
“When the many miles ahead seem daunting focus on the moment,” Mr. Glennon said, who is keeping a blog of his journey.
