Medical Center Shows Plans to Residents

officials presented plans for a new building addition to residents at Keyser Auditorium on the medical center campus on Wednesday. 

The ever expanding medical center’s latest construction project features a state-of-the-art ambulatory facility and adjoining parking garage on the northeast and northwest corners of 95^th Street and Kilbourn Avenue. Groundbreaking is set to begin in October.

Designed by the international architectural firm HDR Inc. and contracted to Chicago-based Pepper Construction, medical center officials said the new ambulatory facility would streamline outpatient services across the hospital.

“Southland deserves the very best care,” Advocate Medical Center President Kenneth Lukhard said.  “We hope to be one of your greatest points of civic pride.

The ambulatory facility also features a six-level parking tower to be built on the site of the former Paragon Restaurant leading directly to the new addition to include up to 2,000 parking spaces. Advocate Christ expects the building and parking garage to be completed in November 2013.

Advocate Christ officials said they would present their final plans to the Oak Lawn Village Board during the May 18 board meeting.

Pending approval from the hospital’s finance committee, Lukhard and his team hope to break ground in October. Construction will take about two years. Lukhard was optimistic of the impact that the addition will have on the community.

He closed the meeting with an appeal to residents: “Let’s create a medical campus that we will all have pride in.”
