Members of the Armed Forces and local veterans groups gathered Monday to honor the names etched on the Oak Lawn Veterans Memorial during the village's annual Memorial Day ceremony.
About 200 residents -- one of the largest crowds ever -- joined in the tribute and to recognize what Memorial Day is all about.
The ceremony was hosted by Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220, who offered a 21-gun salute. Members from all branches of the Armed Forces were represented and all past conflicts.
The oldest vet in attendance was 93 years old, who fought in World War II.
