The only senior on the Oak Lawn Community High School girls varsity basketball team can mean pressure, but to Mia Kennelly it's no big deal.

OAK LAWN, IL — Being the only senior on the girls basketball team can be a lot of pressure. And when that senior already puts a great amount of pressure on herself to excel and be the best every night, it’s even more difficult to endure. However, Mia Kennelly has not only embraced the role as the only senior, but she has also dominated on the court as well. As a result, the Oak Lawn Community High School athletic department named her the Spartan Athlete of the Month for December.

In 10 games during December, Kennelly scored 15.8 points per game, grabbed 5.7 rebounds a game, had 4.2 steals per contest and dished out 3.5 assists per game. She was also selected to the all-tournament teams in the Spartan Holiday Tournament and the inaugural Sandburg Holiday Tournament.

“Mia has been a major reason for the team’s success in leading us in most statistical categories and a 12-5 overall record, plus a 5-0 South Suburban Conference record so far,” said head coach Mark Sevedge.
