Middle-Schooler Dies of Injuries After Being Hit By Truck

An Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School student died Friday afternoon the day after she was hit by a truck while crossing a busy intersection. Dist. 123 officials cancel Friday evening's eighth-grade graduation dance at middle-school.

A Hometown girl who was hit by a pickup truck yesterday morning passed away at at 3:26 p.m. Friday, Chicago Breaking News reported.

Kaylah Lentine, 14, an eighth-grade student at is believed to have missed her school bus and was walking to school to make an awards ceremony being held at her school Thursday morning.

Kaylah was hit by a pickup truck in the turn lane on the east side of Cicero Avenue around 8 a.m. Thursday. A witness to the accident said The impact sent the girl airborne where she landed across the street.

Earlier in the day counselors were on hand to offer students support.

Oak Lawn-Hometown Dist. 123 officials canceled the eighth-grade graduation dance schdeuled for Friday evening. The middle school’s eighth grade class is scheduled to graduate next week.

At 6:50 p.m., Dist. 123 released the following statement:

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of OLHMS 8th grade student, Kaylah Lentine. Kaylah was struck by a car at the intersection of 93rd/Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue yesterday morning, May 24, 2012.

"Due to the timing of the event, OLHMS will be canceling the 8th grade dance scheduled for this evening. The school will have grief counselors available for students when classes resume on Tuesday morning."
