Motel Guests Swipe Passed Out Woman's Purse: Cops

Palos Motel video surveillance showed three guests crouched beside passed out woman in hall and swiping her purse, prosecutors said.

WORTH, IL -- Three motel guests stole a woman’s purse when she was passed out in the hallway of a local motel, prosecutors said. Candice David, 28, Daniel Fosco, 26, and Samantha Salach, 25 appeared before Cook County Judge Michael Cain on a felony charge of theft.

The three were staying at the Palos Motel at 106th Street and Harlem Avenue in Worth. On June 28, the prosecutor said video surveillance showed David, Fosco and Salach crouched around a woman who was lying unconscious in the hallway. The three were seen allegedly taking the woman’s purse which contained $1,004.

When the woman regained consciousness, she noticed her purse missing and called police. The purse was found under the bed in the room where David, Fosco and Salach were staying the prosecutor said. There was $406 inside the purse. Officers were able to identify the three from surveillance video as the purported purse thieves.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Salach, of Chicago Ridge, is a Queen of Peace High School graduate. Fosco is from Chicago. David is from Naperville.

Salach, of Chicago Ridge, is currently on four months supervision for retail theft, according to court records. Her bail was set at $5,000. David's bail was also set at $5,000.

Fosco is being held on an active warrant for retail theft. His bail on the new case was set at $7,500.
