The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn will be celebrating the people who have contributed to its success with an Oktoberfest-themed recognition dinner at The Garden Chalet in Worth on Thursday, July 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Wendy Maynard, a resident of Oak Lawn and a museum volunteer for over 10 years, is this year’s recipient of the museum’s “Soaring Spirit” award. Maynard is primarily well-known for her work as the chairperson of the museum’s Princess Ball. However, she has also volunteered her time to help with the museum’s Casino Night fundraiser and annual Fall Fun Fest.

Saint Xavier University will also be recognized at the event as the museum’s “Community Partner of the Year”. Dr.Tim Ritchie, chairperson of the University’s Psychology Department, along with his students are working with the museum to develop a learning framework for the museum. Throughout the summer, students are conducting observations to see how children play and how the museum’s exhibits can be improved.
