OAK LAWN, IL — Police are negotiating with a man apparently holed up inside a single-family home with a gun in Oak Lawn. The situation unfolded Thursday evening. Police were still on the scene early Friday morning trying to get the man to come out, a neighbor told Patch.
A call went out around 7 p.m. Thursday for a barricaded subject inside a home in the 4100 block of West 109th Street. According to neighbors, 109th Street between Keeler and Komensky avenues was closed to traffic.

“Her house was surrounded by police cars and they told her not to come outside because there was an active shooter in the area,” Arends said. “We have [police] snipers in our backyard.”
Arends said that a woman and child inside the home were able to leave. Police are negotiating with the man over a loudspeaker, telling him to come outside. Gas and electricity have been shut off to the home, according to Arends.

“[Police are telling the man] if he comes outside unarmed they’ll give him cigarettes and water and he can go back in,” Arends told Patch. “He’s not falling for it.”
The carnival at St. Catherine of Alexandria’s continued to operate despite the reported barricade situation a few blocks away.
“Stuff like this never happens in our neighborhood,” Arends said.
