StoryWalk Opens July 1 At Lake Shore Park
New program encourages reading and exercise in young readers.

The Oak Lawn Park District and the Oak Lawn Public Library are partnering together to offer patrons the new, year-round StoryWalk program, a nationally recognized program to encourage literacy and promote physical activity.
StoryWalk transforms the pages of a children’s storybook into signs that will be placed sequentially along Lake Shore Park’s, 9610 E. Shore Dr., Oak Lawn, walking trail. Different children stories will be featured seasonally.
Residents are encouraged to come out to the StoryWalk Grand Opening at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Lake Shore Park to enjoy some fresh air, while exercising your heart and imagination.

This season’s featured book is “The Watermelon Seed” by Greg Pizzoli. The grand opening of StoryWalk will also be held in conjunction with the park district’s Rec Mobile Program, a free traveling recreation program consisting of arts and crafts, games and sports.
The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
