No Gun Found In Argument Over a Woman: Cops

Oak Lawn police responded to a report of a handgun that was allegedly displayed during an argument between two men over a woman.

According to the report, officers went to the 8800 block of Sproat Avenue around 9:56 p.m. March 28. When police arrived they observed a man parking his vehicle at the intersection of Sproat Avenue and 88th Street.

The man told police he had gone to the house in search of his girlfriend after learning of her affair with the man who lived there. After parking his vehicle in the driveway, the man alleges he was confronted by his girlfriend’s new lover before reaching the door.

According to the report, the new lover yelled that the woman was not at the house. The man went back to his vehicle and drove down the street, where he called police. While speaking to the cops, the man said he thought he saw the other man display a handgun.

Police set up a perimeter around the house and asked the dispatch center to call the other man in the house. No one answered the phone, reports said.

After numerous attempts to get the man to come the door, police observed the man at the back door. A detective was able to connect with the man and told him to go talk to officers at the front door.

The man went to the front of the house but would only speak to police through the closed window. He denied threatening his girlfriend’s boyfriend with a gun. He was afraid of the man because of previous incident when his girlfriend’s boyfriend went to his tattoo shop in Bridgeview while armed with a handgun, police said.

He denied owning a gun and said there was no gun inside the house. He also held his driver’s license up to the window so police could verify his identity.

The boyfriend did not wish to file charges. He said he is finished with his girlfriend and will avoid her new lover in the future. No charges were filed.
