Oak Lawn Cops To Crack Down On Scary Impaired Driving This Halloween
Oak Lawn police will be cracking down on scary impaired driving and seatbelt scofflaws during Halloween festivities through Nov. 1.
OAK LAWN, IL — There is nothing quite more embarrassing than being pulled over for impaired driving and hauled to jail while dressed in a pickle or sexy prisoner costume. The upcoming weekend is expected to be a big party weekend for Halloween, and Oak Lawn police are urging motorists to drive sober, buckle up and obey traffic laws.
In addition, on Halloween, which this year falls on Thursday, Oct. 31, officers will also be patrolling streets and roads for impaired or distracted driving while children and families are out trick or treating.
“Alcohol and cannabis impair your ability to drive safely,” said Sgt. Nick Kumke, of the Oak Lawn Police Department. “That’s why it’s crucial to plan how you’ll get home before you head out – whether you’ll be drinking or using any other substance. And don’t forget to wear your seat belt every trip, every time. Planning ahead, driving sober and buckling up can help keep you and others safe.”

Driving while impaired is never acceptable. Remember: DUIs are not limited to alcohol-related
offenses. It’s illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any other drugs or
substances. While cannabis may be legal for adults, if you drive high, you’ll still get a DUI.
