Oak Lawn Cops Plan Memorial Day DUI Crackdown
Expect to see Oak Lawn police officers out in force through May 29 looking for drunks, seat belt scofflaws and distracted drivers.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Holiday boozers take warn: the Oak Lawn Police Department will be out in force through May 29 in an effort to curb impaired and distracted driving during Memorial Day Weekend. The statewide "Drive Sober, Get Pulled Over" crackdown will include high-visibility alcohol and seat belt enforcement throughout Oak Lawn.
During the crackdown, Oak Lawn officers will be aggressively looking for drunk drivers during the crackdown. Front and back seat seat belt violators will also be ticketed. Expect to see police making lots of stops during the holiday weekend in Oak Lawn and other nearby communities.
"This holiday, we will show zero tolerance for drunk drivers on the road. If you choose to drive drunk, we will see you, we will stop you and we will arrest you,” said Sgt. Michael Acke, traffic unit supervisor for the Oak Lawn Police Department.

Drunk drivers face jail time, loss of their driver licenses, and steep financial consequences such as higher insurance rates, attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and the potential loss of a job. Party hosts can also face civil action if an overserved guest leaves their home and gets into an accident.
Last year's Memorial Day crackdown netted five DUI arrests. OLPD also wrote out 162 traffic citations for not wearing seat belts, speeding and other traffic infractions. Enjoy the holiday weekend and stay out of bond court and the police blotter.
