Oak Lawn Leads South Suburbs in 2016 DUI Arrests: Survey

SCHAUMBURG, IL -- Oak Lawn landed in the top 20 of Illinois municipalities and led the south suburbs in for DUI arrests in 2016. An Oak Lawn police officer also tied for tenth in the state in arrests of drivers under the influence, according to the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists’ annual DUI arrest survey.

AAIM is an Illinois-only citizen activist group founded in 1982 by victims of drunk driving based in Schaumburg. The group promotes prevention, victim advocacy and legislation for tougher drunk driving laws and is a recognized expert in this area.

Rockford led the state in with 459 DUI arrests in 2016 of the nearly 700 Illinois communities that participated in the survey. The Oak Lawn Police Department landed in the eleventh spot. Oak Lawn’s 109 sworn officers logged 223 DUI arrests in 2016. This reflects a 2.3 percent increase compared to 218 arrests in 2015.

OLPD Officer Dennis Dwyer tied for tenth place with 105 DUI arrests in 2016. Dwyer shares the spot with a 19th District Chicago police officer on the city’s North Side.
