OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn residents and visitors enjoyed a patriotic promenade down 95th Street Saturday before heading to the Young Guns concert on the village green.

A big crowd turned out for the Oak Lawn Independence Day Parade that featured dozens of churches, schools, community groups, scout troops, youth teams and local businesses. There was plenty of candy for the kids decked out in their patriotic finery, gathered curbside with baskets and bags ready to catch the treats.

The Oak Lawn Raiders SAC led the parade, carrying their giant American flag. Other highlights included the Oak Lawn Community High School marching band, flag team and cheerleaders; Oak Lawn Outlaws Youth Football and Cheerleaders, Benny the Bull, Southpaw, Miss Great Lakes, Medinah Shriners, Those Funny Little People, and of course, lots of adorable kids diving for candy.

Bringing up the end of the parade was the zombie apocalypse, courtesy of Oak Lawn's Midnight Terror Haunted House/Combat Chicago Laser Tag & Escape Room. Always include them.

Don’t forget the fireworks on Monday, July 4, at Richards High School, 107th Street and Central Avenue.
