Oak Lawn Man Packed Pistol and Pills: COPS
Cops find pistol and pills in Oak Lawn traffic stop, police say.

OAK LAWN, IL -- An Oak Lawn man was arrested during a traffic stop when police found he was carrying pills and a pistol in his waistband, reports said. Raed Hadi, 41, was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Oak Lawn police spotted a Chevy Tahoe traveling southbound on Cicero Avenue around 9:07 p.m. Oct. 24 . A check of the license plate indicated that the Tahoe had been reported stolen during a burglary in Chicago, police said. Officers stopped the Tahoe in the 10000 block of South Cicero Avenue. Hadi was sitting in the front passenger seat.
According to the report, officers smelled air freshener when they approached the Tahoe. The driver and Hadi, said the car belonged to their brother, who owns Midwest Auto Sales in Chicago. The brothers told police the car belonged to their brother who was letting them borrow it.

The officer ran the plates and saw that the car was registered to Hadi, but the registration had apparently expired in March. Hadi allegedly told officers he had given the car to his brother but they hadn’t completed the paperwork for the transfer of ownership. As officers continued to talk to Hadi, police said the car began to smell of burnt cannabis, police said. Hadi was asked to step out of the Tahoe.
Before he stepped out of the car, Hadi allegedly told officers that he had a pistol in his waistband. Hadi said he had a conceal-carry license for the pistol, a 45-caliber Springfield XD, with six rounds in the magazine. Officers took the weapon away from Hadi. A small amount of cannabis was reportedly found in an ashtray on the car’s dashboard. A police KD located a plastic bag containing cannabis in the glovebox, and $5,751 inside a leather bag in back of the car, reports said.

Inside the bag, officers found a prescription bottle for Gemfibrozil, which is used to treat cholesterol. Officers found 55 pills of two different types of suspected hydrocodone, an opioid pain medication, reports said. A man who claimed he was Hadi’s brother stopped on the frontage road next to the traffic stop.
Officers informed the brother that the Tahoe had been reported stolen. Hadi’s brother reportedly told police that he couldn’t remember filing a stolen car report. Police told him to contact the Chicago Police Department.
Hadi was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, invalidating his CCL. The suspect Hydrocodone was sent to the Illinois Crime Lab for further analysis. Hadi appeared Oct. 25 before Cook County Judge Peter Felice, where he was released on a $15,000 I-bond. Hadi’s next court date is Nov. 15 in Bridgeview.
