Oak Lawn National Night Out 2024

Celebrating Community Safety and Partnership

National Night Out is an annual event held in communities across the United States to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. This grassroots initiative, typically observed on the first Tuesday in August, aims to enhance the relationship between residents and law enforcement while fostering a sense of unity and safety.

On Tuesday- August 6, 2024 the Oak Lawn Police and Fire Department organized a wide array of engaging activities that catered to both kids and adults. One of the highlights was the fascinating fire burn demonstration, illustrating the difference between a room equipped with a sprinkler and one without. Participants also had the opportunity to take jail tours at the police department and explore the fire department facilities. Children were delighted to sit in various police and fire vehicles and even got to experience the thrill of sliding down the fire department pole.

Another highlight of National Night Out was the impressive drug detection demonstration presented by Officer Carroll and his loyal companion, K9 Thor. The dynamic pair captivated the audience with their exceptional teamwork, agility, and unbreakable bond. Thor exhibited outstanding obedience, quickly responding to Officer Carroll's commands with precision. The crowd was in awe as they watched Thor’s remarkable ability to sniff out narcotics, emphasizing the crucial role K9 units play in combating drug-related crime. This demonstration not only highlighted the officers' skill and dedication but also underscored the vital contribution of our police force in maintaining the safety and security of the Oak Lawn community.
