Oak Lawn Chief Of Patrol Daniel Vittorio Appointed Police Chief
Vittorio, who joined the department in 1997, is the Village's 12th Chief and replaces Randy Palmer, who recently announced his retirement.

OAK LAWN, IL – After announcing last week that he will be stepping down as the Village’s police chief at the end of July, Randy Palmer appointed his replacement on Tuesday when Oak Lawn Chief of Patrol Daniel Vittorio was named to the role.
Vittorio will be the 12th Chief of Police to serve the Village since the role was first filled more than 100 years ago. Vittorio joined the Oak Lawn police force in 1997 and has previously served as Division Chief of Administration, Supervisor of the department’s K-9 Unit as well as field training supervisor. Vittorio has also worked as the Executive Officer of the Region 4 South Mutual Aid Response Team and the President of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team.
In a news release issued Tuesday, Palmer – who is also the acting Village Manager - said that current events across the United States have increased focus on police departments and the men and women who have chosen policing as a career. Last week, Palmer said he would appoint a new chief who will he said will continue to make the "positive strides that have made the Oak Lawn Police Department a model for other agencies to follow".

“Division Chief Vittorio has pledged to adhere to our local ordinances and the U.S. Constitution with respect to individual rights and safety and the protection of all of our residents and visitors to this great community,” Palmer said in the news release.
Vittorio holds a Masters degree from Governor’s State University and graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. Vittorio lives in Oak Lawn with his wife and two children.

Palmer will remain in the role until July 31 but said last week in announcing his retirement from the police force that it is time to step down from "this great department". Palmer indicates he intends to continue working in the role as Village Manager and will assist in the transition of the new chief.
