Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen told Patch that a resident who owns a business had apparently been followed home and may have been targeted in a robbery.

“The details are all under investigation,” Deetjen said. “It was not random. This was a targeted issue.”

The person injured had been a passenger in a Toyota Camry when several individuals approached the car and began shooting. The driver of the Camry drove the injured person to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The person’s medical condition is not known.

Police were working the crime scene well into night, as officers with flashlights trained to the ground searched for shell casings and other evidence.

A nearby neighbor told Patch that he heard two to three gunshots from inside his house, but did not know they were gunshots until he came outside and saw police combing a taped off area of the street.

Police were also looking at an Audi with a smashed window parked on 108th Place. The Audi had a yellow evidence placard placed on its roof.

The Camry was parked outside of Advocate Christ’s ER. An Oak Lawn police officer on the scene said he was “watching the car” and told two men to get away from it.

Police were later called to the hospital for a reported fight inside the ER related to the shooting.
