OAK LAWN, IL — An Oak Lawn teen died after being shot during homecoming weekend at Illinois State University in Normal. The McClean County Coroner identified the teen as Randall Glass, 18.

Another 18-year-old man was also critically injured.

According to the ISU campus newspaper The Vidette, the shooting unfolded just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday at an unsanctioned “pop-up” party near ISU’s Bone Student Center and Hancock Stadium, where the ISU football team had played its game hours earlier.

Officers were trying to clear out the crowd that had moved from a park to the Circle K parking lot when gunfire erupted. Glass and the other 18-year-old were found with multiple gunshot wounds. They were taken to an area hospital, where Glass succumbed to his wounds a few hours later, ISU police said on Facebook.

ISU police told The Vidette that “neither victim is affiliated with Illinois State University.”

“ISU Police respects the right of everyone to celebrate,” campus police said in a statement on Facebook. “Celebration in the form of large ‘pop-up parties’ on public property without a permit or on the property of non-consenting businesses is unacceptable and damages public and private property, disrupts local businesses and residential neighborhoods, and consumes significant ISU and Town resources. Today, it also resulted in gun violence in our community.”

The shooting remains under investigation.
