Oak Lawn Woman Charged With DUI in I-294 Crash That Injured Other Driver

Prosecutor said woman blew a .228 after a crash on I-294 in which the other driver suffered a broken back.

OAK LAWN, IL -- An Oak Lawn woman was charged with driving under the influence in a crash on I-294 that seriously injured another driver, prosecutors said. Katherine Chickey, 28, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice, after the original misdemeanor charged was upgraded to felony aggravated DUI causing an accident with great bodily harm.

Illinois State Police arrested Chickey on June 29 after she allegedly crashed into another driver at mile marker 7.5 on I-294. The other driver was found unconscious and had a broken back, the prosecutor said.

According to the charges, Chickey showed signs of impairment at the accident scene, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Chickey allegedly registered a blood-alcohol content of .228. The prosecutor She has a previous DUI charge from 2012 in Lake County, IL. Her driver’s license was also found to be suspended, the prosecutor said.

Bail was set at $10,000. The judge also ordered Chickey to be on a cellular alcohol monitoring device. Chickey’s next court hearing is July 27 in Bridgeview

“You’re done drinking,” Judge Felice said. “If I see results that you’ve been drinking, even from Catholic church wine, I’ll revoke your bond.”
