Obituary: Evelyne E Chambers, 64, of Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn, IL-Evelyne E. Chambers, 64, of Oak Lawn, died around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at a family member’s home.

Evelyne was born February 15th, 1950 in Germany, daughter of James and Elfriede Pikoulas. Her father preceded her in death.

Evelyne moved to Oak Lawn when she was 8, and lived in the surrounding areas the rest of her life. She graduated from Richards High School in Oak Lawn in ‘68, then went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Southern Illinois University, and a Master’s degree in counseling from Governor State University. She worked as a social caseworker for the Circuit Court of Cook County in the Social Service department for 25 yrs. She retired in Dec. 2011.

Evelyne was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn.

Evelyne is survived by her mother, two sons, Steve J. (wife Aimee) Chambers in Peotone, IL, James E. (wife Corey) Chambers in Cary, IL, and a daughter, Carrie (husband Scott) Whewell, in Springfield, IL.

She was blessed with 7 grandkids; Bradley, Caitlin and Mikayla Whewell, and Jackson, Gavin, Luke and Ryan Chambers. Evelyne enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting with close friends, bicycling, traveling and playing the piano. Evelyne was big on keeping the environment green.

There will be a church service at Salem United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn on Sunday, December 21st at 2:00pm, with a gathering for family and friends, immediately following at the church. Food will be provided.
