OLCHS Holds Prom Dress Resale This Saturday

Oak Lawn Community High School is accepting gently used formal dresses for prom resale through Jan. 25. Sale is open to public Jan. 26.

OAK LAWN, IL -- If your closet runneth over with bridesmaid or your daughter's once-worn formal dresses, bring them to Oak Lawn Community High School for the school's upcoming Cinderella's Closet Boutique. The OLCHS Parent Teacher Student Association is collecting gently used girls and women's formal dresses, accessories, shoes and unopened makeup.

The boutique will be open to the public on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds will help fund transportation expenses for the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Post Prom Lake Michigan Cruise.

Dresses and accessories can be dropped off between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Jan. 25 at the OLCHS Business Office in Room 123, 9400 Southwest Highway. (Please use the Southwest Highway entrance.) If you can't drop off donated items during business hours, please contact Maria Vanderwarren to make other arrangements. A tax form is available for all donations.

Donated dresses and accessories will help junior and senior girls from financially strapped families gear up for their upcoming prom. All styles, sizes and colors are accepted. Graduation and spring party dresses are also needed. All dresses will be sold for $10, cash sales only.
Last year, more than 200 dresses and 40 pairs of shoes were available. Forty students from various high schools including OLCHS, Reavis High School, Hancock High School, St. Gerald, Lincoln Way attended.

Cinderella's Closet is a national organization started by Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park, KY in 2006 and has now grown to other churches and schools throughout the country, providing formal wear to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend their prom. The goal is to turn dresses into dreams and provide some amazing young woman with an unforgettable experience.
