OLCHS Plans Disco-Themed Homecoming Week With Parade, Game And Dance

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School is preparing for its annual homecoming spirit week by announcing its theme “Spartans at the Disco.”

Alumni and the community are invited to watch the Oak Lawn homecoming parade Wednesday, Sept. 25. Expect to see a lot of disco-inspired platform shoes, white suits and sparkly jumpsuits. OLCHS Family and Consumer Science teacher Amy Cryan will do the Grand Marshal honors.

The parade steps off at 6:30 p.m. from Alive Community Church, 8844 S. Austin Ave., proceeding south on Austin to the pep rally and fireworks at Napleton Field on the OLCHS campus, 9400 Southwest Highway.

On Friday, Sept. 27, the 0-4 Oak Lawn Spartans will entertain red conference rival the Eisenhower Cardinals (3-1) at Napleton Field. JV game kicks off at 5 p.m., with the varsity game starting at 7 p.m.

Then it's on to the homecoming dance beneath the disco mirror ball from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at OLCHS. Please note that no tickets will be sold at the door.

Students have already voted online for their homecoming court composed of outstanding juniors and seniors nominated by sports teams and extracurricular clubs. The court will be introduced at Wednesday’s pep rally following the parade.

Meanwhile, the OLCHS Student Council has a whole week of crazy theme days planned for Sept. 23 to Sept. 27, including Class Color Clash (Monday); Jersey Day (Tuesday) including a girls flag football game at 6 p.m.; “Spartans at the Disco” where sequins and 1970s attire are a must (Wednesday); Inside Out Day (Thursday); and Spartan Pride Day, where all students and staff are encouraged to wear green to show their school spirit.
