OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School senior Jake Canvin decided to join the boys varsity bowling team for the first time in his high school career. And in that one-and-only season, he made a definite impact on the team. He was one of the leaders and helped the Spartans advance to the Illinois High School Association State Finals.

However, it wasn’t easy as Canvin was out for part of the season with an injury, but he returned just in time to roll a 203 average in the sectional final and lead the team to state.

“Jake naturally fit in as one our leaders on this year’s state-qualifying squad,” OLCHS head coach Kevin Walery said. “Jake started the year hot but was sidelined by an injury. This did not bring him down, and he showed up to every meet and practice until he recovered.”
