OLHMS #1 Fundraising School in Illinois
OLHMS has been the #1 Make-A-Wish fundraising school in Illinois for the past eleven years.
On Friday, May 15, 2015, Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School had their annual Make-A-Wish assembly. The purpose of the assembly is to honor the Wish families and children that are granted their wishes this year and to show the OLHMS students what their hard work and fundraising efforts have gone towards.
The students of OLHMS have supported local children who have been affected with life threatening medical conditions. The assembly started off with Mrs. Loch talking about all of the OLHMS efforts this year. Then, Mrs. Lukas introduced the important figures that were able to join us. This included Mrs. Pipala, Mrs. Nichele, Mayor Sandra Bury, Oak Lawn Police Chief Murray, Superintendent Dr. Enderle and four wish children, Jaidlyn, Tommy, Julia, Anthony, and their families.
Mrs. Nichele, a Make-A-Wish representative, spoke to the school about how our efforts really make a difference in the lives of children. OLHMS has been the #1 fundraising school in Illinois for the past eleven years. OLHMS is also one of the top fundraising schools in the nation.

The 43 OLHMS students who made it onto the Wall of Fame, which means they raised over $200, were introduced and recognized for their help. Those 43 students will be going to Soldier Field and Make-A-Wish headquarters May 19.
The assembly also included raffles for the Wall of Fame kids, the OLHMS staff, and all of the students that participated in fundraising and the Walk-A-Thon. All of the students were very excited to play games like a team hula-hoop race and a scooter race where you had to use teamwork. The teams included staff members, 6th graders, 7th graders, and 8th graders competing against each other.

All of the staff and students of OLHMS had a great time getting to meet and connect with the kids who they have granted wishes for. It is amazing to see what your hard work can do and see how happy you can make kids who are going through some difficult times.
