OLHMS Hosts 6th Annual SADD Event

On January 31, high school students from Oak Lawn, Richards, and Mother McAuley visited OLHMS for the 6th annual SADD Event. SADD stands for "Students Against Destructive Decisions" and encourages students to make healthy, responsible decisions within their life.

The 27 high school students the visited OLHMS attended a 4-week training in order to participate in the event.  The trainings were led by two teen directors, Paige and Reily from Oak Lawn High School. The whole group spent an hour with each classroom to talk about the selected topic "peer pressure."

Mr. Lloyd Bachrach was a huge hit as well with the middle school students.  He was born with no thigh bones and wears prosthetic legs. He shared and showed students how life is when not wearing his prosthetic legs and talked to them about overcoming adversity.

Kathy Stangel, Middle School Guidance Counselor commented, "This is a win-win situation for all students . The high school students experience some leadership roles and the middle school students get to hear from older students they look up to in daily life."
