HOMETOWN, IL -- A hand-to-hand drug transaction ended in the assault of two police officers, prosecutors said. Derrick Martin, 30, appeared before Cook County Judge Donald Havis on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver and two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer. Martin is currently out on parole.

Around 1:45 p.m. June 3, the prosecutor said police observed Martin engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction at a gas station in Hometown. Martin went back to his car and was pulled over after the alleged transaction occurred. The prosecutor said that Martin cooperated with officers when he was asked to step out of his vehicle, but took off as police were about to handcuff him.

Martin allegedly kicked an officer in the chest and another officer in the hand. Officers warned Martin before tasing him, the prosecutor said.
