Many Oak Lawn-Hometown students are currently competing in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) initiative from Northern Illinois University.
STEMfest is NIU's largest STEM outreach event, designed to showcase careers in STEM to young people across the state. Dr. Michael Kirby, a high energy particle physicist from Fermilab, answered questions for students completing research. Much of the information gathered and research students conducted was added to a video project for STEMfest on October 19th.
Students were extremely excited to speak with Dr. Kirby and thankful for the work of District 123 technology coach and STEM advocate Peg Keiner in securing the interview. Student topics ranged from time travel to paradoxes.
