OAK LAWN, IL -- An Oak Lawn man is the first to throw his hat into the ring for next spring’s village board elections in the 2019 consolidated general election. Paul Mallo, a long-time resident of the village and vice president of a manufacturing company, announced his candidacy for the third district seat on the Oak Lawn Village Board. The election will be held April 2, 2019.

Mallo is challenging the incumbent Bob Streit, who has served uninterrupted for almost 30 years as the third district trustee. Streit ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2017 against incumbent Sandra Bury.

Mallo, 48, has been involved in Oak Lawn Baseball, headquartered in the heart of the village’s third district, since 2001 when he coached his oldest son’s team. He has held many executive positions for the past 18 years, including league vice president and president of boys baseball, and currently serves as the league’s treasurer. It was Mallo’s involvement with Oak Lawn Baseball that led to his decision to run for trustee.

“I’ve met and worked with hundreds of Oak Lawn residents over the years, including many from the 3rd District,” Mallo said. “And I’ve noticed a recent influx of young and energetic families into Oak Lawn, which is a great sign for our future.”

Mallo plans to run as an independent, but welcomes the support of everyone currently on the village board, including Bob Streit, with whom Mallo said he hasn’t spoken about running.

“I have a great deal of respect for anyone who devotes decades of their life to public service, and if Trustee Streit decides not to run, I would certainly welcome and appreciate his support,” he said.

Professionally Mallo is the vice-president of a metal finishing company in Chicago where he has
worked for the past 26 years. He holds a management degree from Elmhurst College where he
met his wife Pam. They are members of St. Linus parish and have three sons, ages 23, 20, and
10, who attended Sward Elementary School, OLHMS and Richards High School.

In addition to his involvement with Oak Lawn Baseball and St. Linus parish, Mallo is also a long-
time volunteer with Oak Lawn Special Recreation, which provides recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.

“I enjoy helping people and getting things done, and I think my experience and involvement can be assets to the village board and to Oak Lawn residents.”
