The varsity girls and boys bowling teams from Richards High School both won large invitationals this week.
The boys bowling team won the 18-team Brother Rice Invitational at Arena Lanes in Oak Lawn. The Bulldogs squeaked past Morgan Park by four pins (6,206 to 6,202); Vernon Hills placed third, followed by Notre Dame and St. Laurence.
Freshman Matt LaBonte won the individual title with a 1446 pin fall, edging the second place finisher by 7 pins. Sophomore Max Simik took ninth place. Both earned all-tournament honors.

The varsity girls won first place at the Reavis Rock and Roll Invitational for the second straight season. Richards edged Lincoln-Way West for the championship by a total of 5,664-5,623 -- Andrew was a close third with 5,604 pins.
Individually, Richards senior Alexandra Wozniak took third place (1,281) and junior Caitlyn Solomon took fourth (1,266).
