Quarantined Kids Celebrate Coronavirus-Safe Birthdays

OAK LAWN, IL — Kids whose parties have been ruined by social distancing are finding they like the coronavirus-safe alternatives their parents dream up almost as much as a bash with their pals at Luv-2-Play. From car parades to birthday banners strung across the front lawn, families, neighbors and even the fire department are cheering up Oak Lawn’s quarantined kids.

Connell Quinlan, grandson of Oak Lawn Village Clerk Jane Quinlan, was disappointed when his birthday party got canceled. The newly minted 5-year-old St. Catherine’s preschooler was thrilled with his sign.

Identical twins Declan and Brady Finnegan held up signs that said “Beep! It’s our 11th birthday” to passing cars. They’ll do it again Friday, April 3, when their younger identical twin brothers, Timmy and Tristan, turn two. By the way, the odds of having two sets of identical twins in the same family are 1 in 110,000.

Oak Lawn EMS-Fire-Rescue drove by Ronan’s house in a fire truck with the sirens blasting to wish him a very happy fourth birthday. If you’d like the fire department do a drive-by for your child or grandchild’s birthday (must live in Oak Lawn), call 708-499-7700.
