Queen of Peace Students Inducted into Mu Alpha Theta, the Math National Honor Society

Burbank, IL –December 18, 2013 – Twenty Queen of Peace High School juniors and seniors were inducted on Tuesday, December 3, into Queen of Peace’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta (Math National Honor Society).

Mu Alpha Theta has over 99,000 student members in more than 2000 schools worldwide and its main goals are to inspire keen interest in mathematics, develop strong scholarship in the subject and promote the enjoyment of mathematics.

Candidacy is determined by a 3.3 GPA requirement, teacher recommendations, an essay and prerequisite math courses with a 3.5 GPA overall.  Each year, candidates and members must tutor at least 20 hours of math and perform 30 hours of service, which includes participation in local math competitions, math career presentations at meetings, assist in World Math Day or our Pi Day celebration.  Mu Alpha Theta is sponsored by Mrs. Judy Canning, math teacher.
