The varsity boys bowling team from Richards High School took fourth place at their IHSA sectional -- the toughest in the state -- on Saturday. As a result the Bulldogs advance to the state finals starting on Friday.
The team averaged 213 for a 6393 pinfall total. The state qualifying team members are seniors Dan Christian and Max Simik; juniors Matt LaBonte and Owen Szarley; sophomores Blake Attig, Trevor Coffman and Nick Schopper; and, Freshman Danny LaBonte.
Matt LaBonte won first place individually with a 1499 series for an average of 249.83 per game. The Bulldogs compete at state starting Friday.
