Richards High School Closed Due To Electrical Fire

Dist. 218 officials said an electrical fire broke out in the boiler room before students and staff arrived Tuesday morning.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Richards High School students got a bonus day off Tuesday after a small electrical fire broke out in the early mornings in the building’s boiler room.

Oak Lawn firefighters were on the scene when staff and students started to arrive for school around 7:30 a.m. They were told the school would be closed due to “electrical problems.”

Dist. 218 spokesman Bob McParland said there was a power outage when staff arrived to open the building for school early Tuesday and discovered a small fire in the boiler room. No one was injured. Damages are being assessed.
