Richards junior raises more than $40,000 for juvenile diabetes research

Diagnosed as a diabetic in second grade, Richards junior Katelyn Sullivan has been told what she can’t do more than a few times. 

As it happens, she does not listen well.

“I’ve had coaches who wouldn’t let me work out.  And I’ve had teachers who would not let me participate in certain activities. But I can do anything.  Nothing’s going to hold me back,” said Sullivan, who starts for the volleyball team. 

Indeed, it seems that attitude and spirit course through Sullivan’s family and friends as well.  After the diagnosis, they created a team for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund event at MVCC.

“It’s been pretty amazing to feel so much support.  We have such a dedicated team,” Sullivan said.

In just a few years, Katelyn’s team has generated more than $40,000.  And when her volleyball teammates learned of the project this year they wanted to help, too.
