OAK LAWN, IL — Ridgeland School Dist. 122 will debut the new fine arts building with a ribbon cutting and open house Aug. 11. D122 families and community members are invited to tour the building, participate in interactive demos and a community art project from 6 to 8 p.m. at the new building, 6440 West 95th St. The ribbon-cutting is set for 6:15 p.m.

The former Party City building was purchased earlier this year and has been under renovation into a fine arts building using grant funds by the school district. The new fine arts building will be used by Simmons Middle School and for other district functions, as well as provide more classroom space in the middle school, including moving art and science into the new building.

Students will also be able to enjoy additional encore course experiences at the middle school, with the new addition of a family and consumer science classroom, where students will learn basic cooking skills and home economics. A general music classroom is also being added. Allowing students a multitude of opportunities opens up student choice and allows for students to have exposure to many other options prior to making choices for high school.
