Suspect Sought in Two Oak Lawn Home Invasions: UPDATE

Oak Lawn police believe suspect has left the area.

OAK LAWN, IL, UPDATED -- Oak Lawn police are investigating two home invasions that happened between 2:20 and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of 93rd Street and the 9600 block of Kildare.

In both incidents, an African American male followed residents into their garage and demanded their valuables. Jewelry was taken from both residents. The suspect displayed a black handgun and fled both scenes in a dark red, large SUV.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his mid-twenties to mid-thirties, between 5-feet-9-inches and 6-feet tall. He was wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt with writing on it. One of the residents robbed said the man had some of his front teeth missing.

Original story -- Oak Lawn police are looking for a robber who is believed to have taken part in a robbery in a residential area on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, an African American man with some front teeth missing fled the area in a newer, darker red SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer or larger vehicle, after a person was robbed near 96th Street and Kildare Avenue.

The suspect is no longer believed to be in the Oak Lawn area. Police said the man should be considered armed and dangerous. Residents should call 911 and not to try apprehend the suspect themselves if they spot someone matching his description.

Police did not indicate if a weapon was used or displayed.

Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen said the person robbed was reorganizing their garage when the robbery occurred, sometime before 3:19 p.m. Tuesday, when an Everbridge alert was sent to residents in the area.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
