Rockford Woman Accused of Ripping Off Chevy Impala Arrested on ID Theft Charge: Prosecutor
Woman promised to come to court if given I-bond, bail set at $250,000.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A Rockford woman promised a judge that she would show up in court if released on an I-bond after she was brought in on a warrant for identity theft.
“Do you know how many people promise me,” Judge Donald Havis said.
Porshua Roby, 23, is charged with taking out a phony car loan on a 2016 Chevy Impala at Webb Chevy in Oak Lawn using another person’s identity.

According to the charges, Roby visited the car dealership on Oct. 26, 2016. Roby reportedly presented a fraudulent ID and social security number. The vehicle was reported stolen by the car dealer, which was eventually located parked in the driveway of rental house in Rockford.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Roby is the mother of three children.

The judge set bail at $250,000. Roby said she couldn’t afford to bond out.
“I didn’t do it,” she said.
“Don’t say anything,” the assistant public defender told her.
Roby is due back in court Feb. 21 in Bridgeview.
