Rockford Woman Drives Off in New Impala She Purchased With Fake ID: WARRANT

Oak Lawn police said the woman took out a car loan using another person's ID and social security woman.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A Rockford woman allegedly drove off in a brand new Chevy Impala after she took out a car loan using another person’s stolen identity.

Oak Lawn police were seeking an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Porshua Roby on a felony charge of identity theft. Police have been unable to locate her.

According to the charges, Roby visited Webb Chevrolet in Oak Lawn on Oct. 26, 2016. The detective told the judge that Roby presented a fraudulent ID and social security number when taking out a car loan on a 2016 Impala.

The vehicle was reported stolen by the car dealer, which was eventually located parked in the driveway of rental house in Rockford. The renter’s physical description, including tattoos, matched the person in the police report the detective said.

The detective told the judge that employees at Webb Chevrolet were able to identify Roby from a photo array. The person whose identity was stolen never gave Roby permission to use her personal information.

These facts as alleged are probably a nightmare for the person whose identity was stolen,” said Judge Matthew Carmody. “That’s a significant amount.”

The judge granted an arrest warrant carrying $250,000 bail.
