Missing Teen From Mt. Greenwood Found Dead

Kara McNicholas, the 18-year-old woman who went missing from Mount Greenwood, was found near 61st and Maplewood.

CHICAGO, IL - An 18-year-old woman who was reported missing from the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood Thursday night has been located, according to Chicago police. A family member has indicated that Karalynn "Kara" McNicholas, who was last seen near 111th and Central Park, was found deceased.

McNicholas' cousin, Kylie McNicholas, said on Facebook Saturday that Kara was found deceased in a backyard near 60th and Maplewood in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood. She has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her cousin's wake and funeral.

A Chicago police media notification indicates a death investigation has begun in connection to an incident near 60th and Maplewood. Police said that a woman between 30 and 40 years old was found "unresponsive" in the 6100 block of South Maplewood Avenue around 7 a.m. on Friday.

Police first alerted the public to McNicholas' disappearance much later in the day on Friday and had indicated she is known to spend time in the area of 63rd and California, which is just blocks from the site of the death investigation. The GoFundMe set up by Kylie indicates her death is considered a homicide.

Paramedics responded to the scene at 61st and Maplewood but found that McNicholas was already deceased.When the details were sorted out, it became clear that police sent out the missing persons notice several hours after she had been found deceased.

Chicago police confirmed the death of McNicholas Saturday night but did not have any additional details. An updated missing persons alert on her case was sent at 4:16 p.m. on Saturday only indicated that she was "located."
