Tinley Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge In Palos Hills Shooting
A Tinley Park man faces an attempted murder charge after police said he shot at a man sitting inside a van in Palos Hills.

PALOS HILLS, IL — A Tinley Park man is accused of shooting another man sitting in a van and then leading officers in a foot chase through residential yards in Palos Hills. Mohammed A. Maali, 30, is charged with attempted murder. The person shot at was not hurt.
Around 1:45 p.m. June 13, police received a call of a man, later identified as Maali, running with a gun in his hand, according to a news release. Officers were told that someone had fired a gun at a man sitting inside a van, but the man was not hit.
Officers saw Maali and chased him through several backyards. Officers were able to arrest Maali after a brief foot chase, police said.

After searching the area, police said a gun was found that Maali is believed to have tossed away while fleeing. Officers interviewed several neighbors and obtained security video through a search warrant.
The man who was shot at told officers he was sitting inside the van in the 10000 block of 80th Court waiting to get his haircut when Maali approached the van and fired a gun at him, striking the vehicle, police said. It is not know if the two knew each other. Police said there is no threat to the community.

Maali appeared for a bond hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse, where bail was set at $200,000.
