A fire official said that a Robbins man crushed to death while working on his semi-cab may have been under the truck for at least two hours before he was found by a neighbor on Monday.
Douglas Mondane, 62, a career semi-truck driver, was last seen alive around 4 p.m. working on the brakes of his truck in the 3400 block of West 136th Street, said Robbins Fire Department Deputy Chief Donald Rush.

Rush said the fire department received a call around 6:45 p.m. of a man bleeding under a truck. When firefighters and paramedics arrived they found Mondane pinned under the driver’s side of semi-cab. Firefighters worked feverishly to extricate the man from beneath the truck.
“Whatever he was using for support failed, causing the semi-cab to fall on him,” the deputy fire chief said.
Rush said that it appeared that Mondane had tried to support the wheels of the semi-cab using wooden boards on soft ground at the end of his driveway. A front tire had been removed allowing access to the brakes. A jack was also found nearby.
It is believed that the 62-year-old man was working on the semi-cab alone.
Family members were overcome with grief as they learned of the bizarre accident.
Mondane was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:23 p.m.
