Services Held For Oak Lawn Woman Killed In Gun Accident
Services were held for Christine Mauricio on Saturday, who was killed when a gun handled by her boyfriend discharged, news reports said.

BERWYN, IL -- An Oak Lawn woman killed when her boyfriend's gun discharged was laid to rest this weekend. Christine Mauricio, 42, died Nov. 16, when a gun allegedly handled by her boyfriend discharged and fatally struck her in the neck. Her boyfriend, Mohammad Elwawy, 24, also of Oak Lawn, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. The incident is still under investigation.
According to prosecutors during a bond hearing Nov. 18 at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building, Elwawy had disassembled and reassembled his handgun in a home in the 3600 block of South Harlem Avenue in Berwyn. Elwawy told police that Mauricio picked up the gun when it discharged, the Southtown reported. Prosecutors did not agree with Elwawy’s account because of the upward trajectory of the bullet.
Bail for Elway, of the 8800 block of South 51st Avenue in Oak Lawn, was set at $50,000. Elwawy’s attorney described his client, who apparently appeared in court wearing blue hospital scrubs, as being an “emotional wreck” since the accident, the Southtown said.
