Sex Offender Registers Address at Oak Lawn Nursing Home: Police
Patient told police he was recovering from medical complications which prevented him from staying compliant with registry, cops said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A homeless sex offender registered his address at an Oak Lawn nursing home while recovering from medical complications, reports said.
William C. Matthews, 56, was a patient at ManorCare Health Services, 9401 S. Kostner Ave. The nursing home staff told Matthews he was required to register as a sex offender.
When officers arrived Feb. 10 at the nursing home, Matthews explained that he had experienced medical complications the day before that prevented him from completing registration on the required date, police said.

The officer checked with staff who confirmed that Matthews did not leave the facility on Feb. 9 or any time on Feb. 10 prior to him contacting Oak Lawn police.
Reports said that Matthews expected he would be discharged on Feb. 11. Matthews told police he would register with the Chicago Police Department as a homeless person.

Matthews was convicted of criminal sexual abuse in LaSalle County. His victim was 12 and Matthews was 49 at the time of the offense. He listed as non-compliant, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.
