2 Suspects From Carjacking, Car Chase Now In Custody: Police

Two people who lead police on a chase from Indiana related to a carjacking are now in custody, Oak Lawn police said.

OAK LAWN, IL — Two suspects who lead state police on a high-speed chase related to an armed carjacking are now in custody, Oak Lawn police said in a tweet. Police issued a shelter-in-place order Monday afternoon in the 95th SStreet and Oak Park Avenue area.

Div. Chief Gerald Vetter, of the Oak Lawn Police Department, told Patch that the vehicle had been carjacked in Chicago. The suspects somehow ended up in Gary, Ind., where they lead police in a pursuit back into Illinois. It is not known what initiated the pursuit.

Witnesses told Patch the Starbucks parking lot was filled with police vehicles as three helicopters, one a TV news chopper, circled the area.

The vehicle crashed near Oak Park Avenue and 95th Street. One of the suspects was taken into custody, but a second man fled the scene on foot, police said.

Oak Park Avenue was closed between 93rd and 95th Street on the northbound side of the roadway, according to Total Traffic.
