In his first competition as the new band director at Shepard High School, Ken George could hardly have hoped for more from his students. The Marching Astros took top honors as Grand Champion at the Pontiac Indian Showdown on Saturday. The band also won the awards for Best in Class and Best Music in Class C. Also a Shepard graduate, George took the reins from mentor Chris Pitlik this fall. "I'm so proud of our kids," George said.
