Shoplifter Threatens Jewel Employee With Gun: Police

When the employee confronted the woman and her friends for shoplifting, she told the employee she had a gun, Burbank policee said.

BURBANK, IL — A woman threatened supermarket employees with a gun when she and her accomplices were confronted while shoplifting, Burbank police said in a news release. A juvenile wadd released to her guardian's custody.

Janiyah B Tyler, 20, of Chicago, was charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a FOID, retail theft, and two counts of resisting arrest.
The other adult, 24-year-old Brandy L McCray, also of Chicago, was charged with retail theft. The juvenile was released to her guardian.

Around 8 p.m. April 14, Burbank officers went to Jewel-Osco Food Store, 7910 S. Cicero Ave., for a report of an armed robbery. An employee told police that three females, later identified as Tyler and McCray, along with their young friend, were spotted stealing merchandise, police said. When confronted by the employee, Tyler allegedly stated she had a gun. The three left the store. The employee was able to provide a description for police.

The three were picked up later near 79th Street and Kilbourn Avenue. Tyler was in fact in possession of a firearm, police said. Tyler and McCray both had bond hearings Thursday at the Bridgeview Courthouse. No bond information was available about Tyler. McCray’s next court date is June 25.
